The World's most valuable sports franchises

Who has the most success off the field?

Sports franchises are amongst the most lucrative in the world. In this infographic we go through the top 10 most valuable sports franchises on the planet. Some of them may come as a surprise, it's not always the most successful team on the pitch that makes the most money off of it.

1. Dallas Cowboys

The American Football team are valued at $4.2 billion. Based in Dallas, Texas and owned by Jerry Jones - they top our list of the world's most valuable sports franchises.

2. New York Yankees

Baseball's most valuable sports franchise are the New York Yankees, who are valued at an impressive $3.7 billion. Based in the Bronx, New York. Following George Steinbrenner's death in 2010, the franchise is now co-owned by his two sons.

3. Manchester United

Since the birth of the Premier League, Manchester United developed their brand abroad with more success than any of their rivals to become the most valuable football franchise on the planet. They're now valued at $3.69 billion.

4. Barcelona

Not only do Barcelona boast some of the world's best footballers, they've also grown as a franchise and are now valued at $3.64 billion.

5. Real Madrid

Barcelona's La Liga rivals may have won the title and a Champion's League trophy last season, but it's not enough to see the Florentino Perez owned team move ahead of their rivals - they're valued at $3.58 billion.

6. New England Patriots

The current Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots are valued at $3.4 billion. Tom Brady's talent may well have a hand in this.

7. New York Knicks

The first basketball team on our list! Despite the fact the Knicks haven't won much for a long time, they've still got one of the most recognisable brands in the world and are valued at $3.3 billion.

8. New York Giants

Another New York based team - the Giants are owned by John Mara and Steve Tisch and are now valued at an impressive $3.1 billion. They last won the Super Bowl in 2011.

9. Los Angeles Lakers

Playing at the Staples Centre in Downtown Los Angeles, the Lakers have been a bit quieter since their glory days with Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant (and Magic Johnson if you go further back). Despite this, they're still a franchise where the brand seemingly always remains strong. They're valued at $3.0 billion.

10. San Francisco 49ers

Having won 5 Super Bowl championships, the franchise most famous for 'The Catch' round off our list with a value of $3.0 billion.
