Zambrero celebrates donating 100 million meals to help end world hunger

Zambrero, the modern Mexican quick-service restaurant franchise, has reached a monumental milestone by donating 100 million meals through its Plate 4 Plate initiative.

Zambrero was founded in Australia in 2005 by Dr. Sam Prince, one of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists. His ambition to build a business with purpose, that gives something back, came to life with the launch of the Plate 4 Plate humanitarian initiative during the company’s early days, and has continued for the past 20 years. It now sits at the heart of Zambrero, where for every burrito or bowl purchased at any of its restaurants, a nutritious meal is sent to someone in need in the developing world via Zambrero’s distribution partner, Rise Against Hunger℠. The combination of delicious freshly prepared food and giving back is why Zambrero call themselves Feel Good Mex.

Emily Teh, CEO of Zambrero UK, said: “We’re thrilled to have reached this momentous milestone of 100 million meals donated through our Plate 4 Plate initiative. Our ethos of giving back is at the heart of the Zambrero brand, where our mission is to help end world hunger.  To celebrate this milestone, and to thank our customers for supporting us with our mission, we’re giving away 100,000 free burritos across the world.

“2025 has been a big year for Zambrero. As well as reaching the Plate 4 Plate milestone, we’re also celebrating 20 years of the brand, and we launched our franchise recruitment programme here in the UK, enabling more people to get involved with our mission. As part of our expansion plans, we’re looking for Franchise Partners who want to partner with a brand with purpose and spread our Feel Good Mex message across the UK.”

Zambrero currently has 13 restaurants and one delivery kitchen in the UK, located in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Reading, Essex and Glasgow. As part of the brand’s expansion plans, it launched its UK franchise recruitment programme earlier this year and is aiming to open 100 restaurants by 2030. Zambrero is now actively seeking passionate, committed and ambitious Franchise Partners to join the Zam Fam.

Zambrero serves a modern take on Mexican favourites with a focus on fresh ingredients, specially crafted marinades and flavour-packed sauces for customers to tailor to their own taste. Famous for its burritos and bowls, Zambrero also offers tacos, nachos and quesadillas, with slow cooked meat fillings, as well as vegetarian and vegan menu options.

With more than 20 years’ experience running restaurants, Zambrero has grown into a global brand through its successful franchise programmes, with over 350 restaurants in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. It is also the largest Mexican restaurant franchise in both Australia and Ireland.

To mark the milestone of donating 100 million meals through its Plate 4 Plate initiative, Zambrero will be giving away 100,000 free burritos across its restaurants worldwide. UK customers will be able to claim a free burrito on Wednesday 17th December between 11am – 2pm at any of Zambrero’s UK restaurants.
