Mother and son celebrate loft-y launch with community party in Selsey

A mother and son duo who recently launched their family-run business, More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) Portsmouth, have officially marked the occasion with a heartfelt community celebration in Selsey.

Lynette and Chris Turner welcomed family, friends and local residents to KIND: Coffee & Eatery for an afternoon of speeches, ribbon cutting and plenty of loft-themed fun.

The pair, who opened their professional loft access and storage solutions business at the end of last year, have already transformed dozens of homes across Portsmouth, West Sussex and the surrounding areas. The event was an opportunity to thank those who have supported them on their journey so far and to look ahead to what’s next.

Guests were treated to an incredible spread of vegan food prepared by the KIND team, while gym-goers from the Thrive Health & Wellness Centre were also invited to join in the celebrations, helping create a lively, community-focused atmosphere.

And no MTLL celebration would be complete without a special appearance from Larry, the brand’s much-loved mascot, who joined Lynette and Chris for the official ribbon cutting – captured in a celebratory photo marking the milestone moment.

Speaking at the event, Lynette thanked everyone for their encouragement and backing as the business has taken off. With a background in finance and banking, she explained that launching MTLL has allowed her to use her organisational and business expertise while gaining the flexibility she was seeking around her role as a foster parent.

Chris also spoke about his journey to becoming a business owner: “Having previously worked across a wide range of home renovation projects, no two days were the same. One day I could have been fitting a kitchen and the next be transforming a garden! I felt it was time to specialise in one area of home improvement and build something solid for the future that also gives us the flexibility as a family to pursue other important passions, like mum’s foster care work.”

More Than Loft Ladders specialises in professionally installed loft ladders, hatches, boarding, insulation and lighting, helping homeowners unlock safe, accessible storage space without the cost and disruption of a full loft conversion.

The demand for their services has already exceeded expectations and the Turners are now looking to expand their team. With one successful community event under their belts and Chris’ diary filling up seven days a week, it seems the sky – or at least the rafters – really is the limit for the Turner family business.
