Home Care Preferred chooses Headway as their Charity of the Year

Home Care Preferred have started the year on a great note by nominating Headway as their charity of the year.

Headway is a UK-wide charity that works to improve people’s lives after brain injury. Through it’s network across the UK, it provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families, caregivers, as well as health professionals in the industry.

  • In 2013-14 over 300,000 people in the UK were admitted to hospital with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
  • ABI admissions in the UK have increased by 10% since 2005-6.
  • There were approximately 956 ABI admissions per day to UK hospitals in 2013-14. That’s one every 90 seconds.
  • Men are 1.6 times more likely than women to be admitted for a head injury.
  • Female head injury admissions have risen 24% since 2005-6.

Home Care Preferred help rehabilitate those with ABI – Acquired Brain Injury. Brain injury can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons including congenital (at birth), falls, road accidents, tumour or stroke. Impairments can be temporary or permanent and cause partial or functional disabilities.

Life after a traumatic brain injury can feel daunting, for both clients and their families trying to provide care. The team at Home Care Preferred and Headway help to improve the quality of life for people who are recuperating after a brain injury or long-term neurological condition. Services can include anything from personal care and daily living to relearning life skills and behaviour management.

Home Care Preferred has decided to choose Headway based on their work which involves free support service for those living with brain injury and their families or caregivers. The service also provides invaluable information and guidance to the community and make referrals to organisations whose services may be of use. Home Care Preferred see first-hand how this service changes the lives of people who come in contact with Headway.

As part of the yearlong endeavour to support Headway, Home Care Preferred will be organising various fundraising events: comedy nights, abseil challenge and charity walks to name a few.
