Following in his father’s footsteps: Rob Hobbs takes over More Than Loft Ladders territory

Stepping into a role shaped by family but making it his own, Rob Hobbs has been working his way up the ladder and has now officially become the owner of his dad’s former franchise territory. Liam Hobbs took his own interesting path from franchisee to leading the franchise brand, and now his former greenkeeper son has earned his stripes, first working in head office, then in the franchise territory.

These last 12 months have seen some big life changes for Rob – getting married, becoming a dad and now completing the purchase of the franchise territory that first brought his dad into the More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) family.

“Seeing Rob reach this point is incredibly rewarding. He’s taken the time to understand the business properly and has really put the work in. It also allows me to focus more on the wider direction of the brand, knowing the territory is in capable hands. This is exactly what MTLL stands for – real opportunities within a family-run network.”

Moving into ownership has felt like a natural step up for Rob, thanks to his broad experience across the company. “Having worked in varying roles, I felt I had the knowledge and was ready for the responsibility. It didn’t feel like a big jump more like a natural progression.”

Under Liam’s leadership as franchise director, MTLL Derby, Nottingham and South Yorkshire has become a testing ground for new ideas, trialling initiatives before they’re introduced across the wider MTLL network. Recent developments include upgraded marketing systems and the rollout of an AI-powered booking platform to increase job efficiency.

Rob is enthusiastic about playing a part in this. “Being involved in testing new systems is a great opportunity. The AI booking platform, for example, has made a real difference to how we manage enquires. And helping out the old man is always a bonus too!”

“Rob’s openness to innovation has been great,” added Liam. “His approach to trying new ideas and feeding back is helping us refine what works, and what doesn’t, which in turn benefits our whole network.”

What’s next for Rob? “There’s healthy competition in our network to generate the most 5-star customer reviews. That can only be done with consistent, excellent customer service and that’s what’s driving our team forward.”

MTLL continues to attract ambitious franchisees, like Rob, with opportunities for likeminded entrepreneurs to join a resilient and supportive franchise network.
