The Delightful Desserts concept started in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength with strong brand recognition in the Midlands and surrounding areas. We are a unique and independent, quality dessert and coffee brand. Providing an unforgettable eating experience for all customers with dine in and take-away options.

The feedback from customers has been extremely positive and crucial for our growth and we are happy to announce we now have 20 sites up and running within 9 months of launching our franchise model, with a further 5 sites scheduled for Q4 of 2018, with plans for international growth in 2019. The future is looking sweet!

At Delightful Desserts, we make your dessert dreams come true.

From creating freshly made great tasting desserts including, large American waffles, sweet crepes, hot gooey cookie dough and sensational sundaes just to name a few. We sell over 40 different flavours of ice cream that you would only imagine in your wildest dreams, from Candyfloss to Rocky Road to our most popular Kinder Bueno Gelato. Great tasting coffee is really important to us, our 100% Arabica signature coffee beans roasted to perfection, specially made just for us is an outstanding tasting coffee.

Our cake range is often raved about! Our customers love our succulent cakes, especially coupled with our signature coffee! Our Extra Indulgent range is sure to make your mouth-water, our popular Chocolate Peanut Butter Stack is in constant demand, as are our cheesecakes ranging from flavours such as salted caramel to cookie dough.

Finances

When you open a franchise with Delightful Desserts, it isn’t a one size fits all solution. Every one of our franchises are different and therefore the overall investment required to open a Delightful Desserts franchise can vary.

The franchise fee is completely dependent on the type of franchise you open, the smaller the franchise, the smaller the fee. The overall build costs can also change depending on the location and building, if more work needs to be done in the building, the higher the cost.

However, we do offer help in sourcing suitable premises at the best rates possible; we will also be keen to set you up in a territory where we see an opportunity for your business to succeed. We will also conduct geographical reports of certain territories so we can outline a location that is best for your business to succeed in.

How did you find the training/support?

The training and support was very good I was one of the first on board so we’ve all learned together along the way. I had thorough training at some existing stores before I opened my own store, then training once again in my own store from experienced team members. The support has been second to none, I have an area manager on hand for day to day issues who I see regularly and if I ever need to talk to the owner of the business it is just a phone call away.

What are the biggest challenges and how have you overcome them?

Our biggest challenge is most definitely staffing and getting the right people to work alongside us in our store. The staffing side of the business is always the most difficult. We have become more particular in who we employ to make sure the staff working for us represent the brand in the correct way. I now have a strict recruitment process and will only hire a person if I can see them being the right fit for us. Staff can make or break your business, so it is so important to have the correct individuals.

How has your life changed?

It has changed for the best most definitely. Financially and in terms of lifestyle it is great. Our lives have got busier in the sense that we’ve had to get used to a business that’s open so many hours a day and 7 days a week, but if you have the right staff that isn’t an issue. My daughter and husband work closely with me in the business too, which is a great perk.

What advice would you give to other franchisees looking to invest in this franchise?

My best advice would be to think very seriously about the commitment you can give to the business as there is a lot to learn, you need to be fully engaged and dedicated. But nothing is difficult. All the support you need is here and you never really feel alone. It can be a very busy life but it is very rewarding. The owner of the franchise has become a good friend in this partnership and is extremely passionate about the business; he is very innovative so I have no stresses in the success and the future of the business.

How did you find the training/support?

The training offered was extremely thorough. I had training at a few of the existing stores with experienced staff, and then again once my store opened I has training in my own store and support training my new staff. I was also given an experienced staff member to work in my store alongside me for 5 days. This was great, as I didn’t feel like I was just left to my own devices. I have felt really supported and assured since the day I signed the contract with Delightful Desserts. The training program they have, has enabled me to obtain all the skills and knowledge needed for the everyday running of the business. At any point if you're unsure about anything, support is only a phone call away, which for me is the best thing I could ask for.

What are the biggest challenges and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is probably just the general issues you have with running a restaurant. Things like keeping on top of the stock levels so you don't run out halfway through the week and managing staff and all the issues that come along with staff management- sickness, absence and so on! I have gotten over these issues by being organised and having good communication with my team. My advice to anyone looking to join is to be ready to put in the hard work and to guide staff during busy periods as a leader.

How has your life changed?

It has been life changing in the sense that I am not restricted or restrained to the usual 9-5 hours of work and having to answer to anyone. Instead I work the hours that suit me and the business and its great knowing I am working for myself- what I put in is what I get out. It does keep me on my toes 24/7 as you can’t ever switch off when it is your own business. However, the perks of going on holiday when I want and working the business around my family commitments cannot be underplayed. I am very hungry for success and the business has enabled me to expand on my ambitions, I have not yet been open for a year and I have already started work on my second store. The opportunities available and the scope for the size of the business is massive.

What advice would you give to other franchisees looking to invest in this franchise?

From my own personal experience, I can honestly say it's the best decision I’ve ever made. It gives me the flexibility to work the hours to work around my chosen lifestyle and my children. If you follow the rules and advice given from the franchisor, there is nothing stopping you from achieving your potential. It shouldn't just stop at one store, if you're like me hungry for success then opening your second store within the first year is very doable in this franchise. I would say if you are interested do not hesitate. It will be the best decision you will ever make.

I would say it was brilliant, very thorough professional and everyone I came into contact with was extremely friendly. I felt the training programme provided by Head Office gave me all the confidence I needed to make a success of my store, and having the support of experienced team members equipped me with all the knowledge I needed. I would say the most helpful part was having an experienced team member work alongside me and my team in my store for 5 days after opening my doors. That was a great comfort and really made me feel assured that this company are here to help and support me.

What are the biggest challenges and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was initially the running of the store, when you first launch you want to make sure you are there to oversee everything and to make sure everything runs smoothly, so initially I was working long days and I didn’t see my family much. It was difficult finding the right staff that you can trust to manage your business whilst you are not there. However, the staff at Head Office really supported me and helped me to recruit the right team members. Once you find the right staff that you can trust then you can have all the flexibility you want.

How has your life changed?

It has changed massively for the better! The biggest and best change is that I am my own boss and I love it! I am not answerable to anyone! I wanted to go into business because I wanted to be in control of my own destiny and career. I didn’t want my future or pay packet to be in anyone else’s hands, and knowing that I am working for myself is just the best feeling in the world. I know that the more hours I put into my business- the more I earn! That’s just a feeling that cannot be explained.

What advice would you give to other franchisees looking to invest in this franchise?

Well, it’s a friendly and 24 hours back up support environment! Each staff member of DD Head Office is so cooperative, I really feel part of the Delightful Desserts family. I would strongly recommend people who want to get into business to explore the options available at Delightful Desserts and you will not be disappointed! I visited and attended number of franchisors and their facilities prior to signing up to Delightful Desserts, but none of them came close to what Delightful Desserts offer. They have got the perfect affordable package, the right culture, a really positive growth plan and they are extremely innovative. I can’t recommend them enough- honestly go for it!

How did you find the training/support?

It was more than I expected and really filled me with the confidence I needed to drive the business forward. I have never been in business before, so the whole process was scary but I can honestly say I have never felt alone. I had thorough training in a few existing stores and then training in my own store with an experienced team member working in my store for 5 days once I opened. I have all the manuals, how to make sheets and step by step guides that I could want to support me and my team.

What are the biggest challenges and how have you overcome them?

My biggest challenge was initially the stock ordering, sometimes I was ordering far too much and then other times I was ordering too little. It took a while to get to grips with how much stock I need in the store, but the Head Office team were always on hand to support and guide me. I have learnt now and I would say I am confident with ordering the right amount of stock. On times when I ordered too little the Head Office team would always manage to get an emergency delivery to me. So that was really reassuring.

How has your life changed?

It has changed for the best! I have worked shift work my whole life so I have always had to fit family commitments around work, however, now I can fit work around my commitments. I see my family so much more, and I have been able to enjoy going to the gym (eating all these desserts makes the gym important!) I love being my own boss and not having to answer to anyone. It is the best decision I ever made.

What advice would you give to other franchisees looking to invest in this franchise?

If you want to do it just do it! Don’t be scared, don’t think you have to know about business or the industry prior to joining as you really don’t have to. All you need to have is passion and belief in the franchisor that it will work and it will. It is a simple concept- great desserts, amazing coffee and the best customer service will get people coming back over and over again. Having the support of an established brand has prevented me from the usual pitfalls new businesses face. I love that I don’t have to think about anything other than managing my staff. Everything else like marketing, support and branding is taken care of. Don’t hold back!
