Ross McLaren prepares for further expansion

Two years after joining automotive paintwork repair specialist ChipsAway franchisee Ross McLaren has brought his wife Sharon on board to help cope with the growing workload and prepare the business for further expansion.

A former training manager for Honda, Mr McLaren spent a lot of time working away and felt he was missing out on quality family time. This prompted him to explore opportunities to work for himself, and he focused on franchises in the automotive sector, eventually deciding that ChipsAway offered the best package, excellent support and a strong reputation in the industry.

He said: “The training was first class. Although I had come from an automotive background, I knew nothing about painting, and nor did my fellow trainees, who included a bank manager, IT manager and a car salesman. By the time we’d finished our course, we could all accomplish a top quality invisible repair, which goes to show that you don’t need previous motor trade experience to become a franchisee with ChipsAway.”

He had a successful launch weekend, writing estimates for work worth £9,000 and booking £5,000 of firm orders, and he describes the following months as phenomenal, with a steady flow of new business.
He added: “I am relishing the freedom and flexibility of working for myself, but also appreciate the benefits of being part of a large, professional organisation.”
