YogaBugs Franchisee, Francesca Kleanthous has won two local government funding initiatives in her first couple of months in business, “when I approached Sports Unlimited in Wandsworth, I really wanted to show them how YogaBugs could engage children who don’t normally participate in what’s considered “normal” sports. They saw a demonstration and have now signed two schools up for twelve months of classes”. If the programme is successful by September we could have the whole borough involved in this project”.
Kalpana, Regional Director of NW London won a contract for over 100 hours of teaching with Sports Unlimited. Since the YogaBugs franchise model was launched 18 months ago franchisees have won business through the PESCAL Strategy, EYFS Programme, School Sports Partnership and Every Child Matters Initiative to name but a few programmes set up by the Government to get kids active, help reduce obesity, improve anti-social behaviour and make sport more inclusive to all children.
Yvonne McHale, Head Teacher of Tidbury Green Primary in Birmingham wrote recently “Through the yoga sessions the children are able to re-enact a story which can take them to the moon and back! They have a lot of fun and are able to take knowledge back to the classroom and apply it to their creative writing. The classes have been adapted to meet the needs of all our pupils.
She went on to say “a child with Downs Syndrome has gained in confidence over the weeks and is now starting to copy her peers and participate fully in the class. We haven’t seen this in any other activity that we’ve offered her before”.
Jenny, Regional Director in Midlands said “winning business is great, but knowing that we’re really starting to have these sort of positive effects is even better”.
