Grow your business through franchising

We will help you explore at the outset whether franchising is the right way to grow your business. It is important to address this because expansion through franchising takes time, effort and money. It should not be seen as a quick fix to boost profits. However, if it is done properly and ethically it can bring long-term financial reward.

We can provide preliminary guidance as to whether franchising is likely to be appropriate for your business concept and structure. We work together with an extensive network of people within the franchising industry who can assist with the non-legal aspects of starting out. For example, we know people that can help write your operations manual, which will become your ‘living document' containing all the practical detail for franchisees about how your model will operate.

Taking a franchise

emily frampton Let us guide you through the reams of paperwork; a typical franchise agreement being between 30-60 pages long. We can produce a written franchise report, usually on a fixed fee basis, advising you of the key aspects of the franchise agreement and drawing to your attention any particularly unusual or onerous provisions.

As franchising specialists we provide an economical service because we have learnt to focus on the relevant issues and not waste time trying to amend a ‘non-negotiable' agreement for the sake of it. Of course, there will be exceptions but the general rule is that franchise agreements, for the sake of consistency and fairness across the network, are non-negotiable, a concept which can be hard to grasp by lawyers not familiar with franchising.

Our role is to ensure that you fully understand what you are signing up to and what your financial and personal obligations will be. After all, a franchise is a serious investment. We will review the agreement bearing in mind the BFA's code of ethics to ensure you get what you believe you are paying for. If any changes to the agreement are required we will advise you as to the prospect of you successfully negotiating their inclusion and any additional costs involved before we negotiate with the franchisor's lawyers on your behalf.
