robertson technologies
robertson technologies is the only management franchise operating in the exciting and expanding business to business technology sector. Our business focused franchise partners grow a client base while managing engineers who perform the technical work.
- Investment amount: 10K - 20K
- Industry Sector(s): Computer Maintenance
In a Nutshell
Award-winning technology services company, robertson technologies, has built an enviable community of franchise partners and seeks more top quality partners.
As the UK’s only business-to-business management franchise in the IT sector, we are the ideal franchise for:
- IT consultants
- account managers
- sales executives
- project managers
- business consultants, and
- entrepreneurs
Our franchise partners have built their businesses by offering a “virtual IT department” service to the UK’s 2 million small and medium sized businesses. With turnover growth of over 45% and 4,000 hours of technical support delivered in 2011, there’s clearly a market for our services.
We’re looking for the right partners who want to own and grow a business, not fix a computer. If you’re interested in technology and have communication, sales, organisation and marketing skills,
then this is the franchise for you. Read on!
“The training has been fantastic and I have access to a huge amount of support and experience to help me.” - Jim Callaghan, franchise partner, Reading
Unique Management Franchise in IT Sector
robertson technologies is the only franchise which meets the needs of someone who:
- wants to operate a business in the IT sector
- does not want, or have the skills, to fix computers, and
- wants to work with businesses, not home users.
robertson technologies is designed for white collar franchise partners. We look for entrepreneurs who want to develop a successful business by building up a portfolio of recurring monthly contracts which are serviced by a team of technical staff.
IT knowledge is not required.
What We Do – The Market
There are some 2 million small and medium sized companies in the UK who outsource their computer support and technology services. The market is fragmented and dominated by one-man-businesses who cannot deliver the same high level of service, quality and price which we can through our UK-wide franchise community.
Your business will provide all of the IT services that a small business needs, including:
- Onsite and remote computer maintenance and support, including 24/7 monitoring
- Supply of hardware and software
- Server installation
- ERP/CRM implementation
- Cloud Computing
- Data backup solutions
- Internet access, email, website hosting and spam filtering
- Telecoms, including VOIP
- Supply of computer upgrades, consumables and peripherals
Is this for you?
Hopefully by now you’ve got a good idea if this is for you.
This is a management franchise, not a fixing franchise. We want confident business people who can build, manage and grow a client base of small and medium sized businesses, while organising a team of engineers to do the technical work.
Relax: we’ll find you the engineers and give you all the IT knowledge you’ll need.
People with sales skills, ambition and high level motivation are our partners of choice. If you tick all the boxes, then get in touch!

John Sewell
Staffordshire Franchise
Entrepreneur John Sewell is a big speedway fan, who loves the excitement of watching riders “rushing around at high speeds with no brakes”.
He is adamant that he would never do it himself but, on reflection, he admits that there is a parallel between speedway and the frenetic activity of running his own business, the Staffordshire franchise of highly-regarded IT specialist robertson technologies.
Because John, the latest businessman to take up the baton of the Scottish-based company which has established a nationwide reputation for quality and service, is devoting all his time and energy to keeping the computer support business growing at top speed.
Based in Stafford, John covers almost the entire county, including major towns such as Newport and Telford and Shrewsbury in Shropshire.
A typical day for John starts in the early hours as he gets himself up out of bed and on the road by 6.15 for a series of breakfast networking events, which are one of the cornerstones for achieving regular referral business.
The former modern languages and IT teacher said: “I will attend breakfast networks on average three mornings a week, usually starting about 7am and normally organised in local hotels, though I have a regular event which takes place at Uttoxeter racecourse.
“These events are really important for a growing business. You are not selling necessarily to the people in the room, but to the networks of people they know and to whom they could refer you. There are more than 30,000 SMEs in this region and getting your name in front of them is vital.”
Networking over, John usually heads directly to his office to spend an hour or two making calls, sorting through emails, and following up sales leads and networking contacts.
The rest of the morning is taken up with going out to meet clients or new prospects, attending sales meetings, servicing existing clients and meeting and briefing his team of specialised engineers who deal with computer support contracts.
John said: “The big thing at the moment is cloud computing and many companies are investigating its potential and are sizing up its money-saving capabilities. People are also very conscious about the need for secure data back-up.
“My client portfolio ranges from companies with two computers in their office to organisations with up to 35 computers. We are geared up to service businesses with up to 100 computer with the aim of providing a fast response to clients’ problems and eliminating their technical troubles quickly and painlessly.”
After lunch – which is usually a sandwich on the run – John heads out into all the corners of his large territory. Sales and client meetings can see him travelling from one meeting in Burton straight to another in Telford, through one of the UK’s busiest traffic areas.
Staffordshire is one of the West Midlands’ most varied business landscapes, ranging from the rural economy of the Staffordshire Moorlands to bustling commercial centres. Sectors range from farming to finance, from distribution to tourism and from food production to manufacturing.
He said: “There’s a lot of time in the car and I can use moments when I’m stuck in traffic to catch up on communications.”
John, who taught French at schools in Walsall for 12 years, before heading up a team of five teachers and five engineers at a federated school in Walsall, finishes his day back at the office where he can often be found up to 7pm, catching up on vital admin and paperwork.
He relaxes by watching Formula One racing and speedway, particularly at Wolverhampton where the Elite League riders of the Wolves broadside their bikes round the narrow track with fixed gears, no brakes and virtually no suspension.
John said: “It’s a different kind of thrill, but building your own business is a race as well and you are up against really tough competition. The trick is to get ahead of the pack and stay there.”
