New City Franchising
Introduction
Is it time for a clean start? Are you looking to join one of the UK's fastest growing commercial cleaning businesses? New City have an enviable reputation for quality of service and consistency of standards, two factors which have helped them secure contracts on behalf of their franchisees from well-known national brands including Monsoon, Boots, Tesco Extra, Ramada Hotels, Starbucks, Specsavers, Taylor Wimpey and many more.
The key difference with the New City franchise is that the Head Office handle all of the sales calls for you, arranging appointments with senior decision makers in your territory on your behalf. You will of course need to visit these clients and explain how the New City system works, and the benefits that this will bring to the client - in some ways it is a sales role - but certainly not a "hard sell". New City believe their service - and in particular the testimonials they receive from existing clients - do the selling for you and as the franchisees know, having a reputation as strong as New City's behind you makes landing those all important contracts that much easier.
Once a new contract is secured you will be drawing upon your management and organisational abilities to make sure that you have the right people in the right place at the right time - it can be a busy time, scheduling and arranging everything, but you will of course be fully trained in every aspect of the business. As with all businesses, your success will depend upon the amount of effort you put in, but as the existing franchisees will testify, the rewards are there if you are prepared to put the work in. Not only are you building a substantial income for yourself, you are building up a significant asset for the future when you come to sell your business. Many franchisees see this as their "retirement fund" and it certainly outperforms any traditional pension schemes by a very long way!
Who we are
Franchising a successful business model gives budding entrepreneurs a way to get their own business up and running, but without many of the risks inherent in starting and entirely new business from scratch, something which New City’s Managing Director Caroline Meredith knows only too much about. Having been awarded the Shell Livewire “Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in 2002, along with the Prince’s Trust Business of the Year Award, Caroline has been approached by the Prince’s Trust to become a mentor for start-up businesses, and fully understands the challenges faced by any new business owner.
“Starting out with a new concept, in a new market is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do; you need to become an expert in marketing, sales, finance and accounting before you even begin delivering a service or a product. However, by buying into a proven franchise system all of those worries are taken away, you let the franchisor train you in the system, and by following that system you can concentrate on building up your own business with much of the stress removed”. Caroline goes on to explain that naturally there is full training provided, but in addition to the marketing function provided by the franchisor there is another – very important – facility which the franchisor provides “we handle all of the credit control and cash collection on behalf of the franchisee” explains Caroline. “We understand that maintaining a good cashflow is vital to any business, and it can be difficult to keep a strict control on the cash without jeopardising the relationship with the client, so by centralising this we can protect the personal relationship between the franchisee and the client, whilst still keeping the cash coming in, which these days is more important than ever”
Who we are looking for
The New City franchise is very much a managerial role; franchisees will not be required to undertake any of the cleaning themselves, in fact the franchisor expressly forbids it! The role is one of co-ordinator and manager, recruiting and managing teams of commercial cleaners, maintaining the quality and looking after the customers.
As Laura explains, “our business is all about operating a system which we have spent many years developing. Franchisees can enjoy the same levels of success that we have enjoyed in our pilot areas by simply following the system, achieving the same levels of customer service and quality standards”. The franchisor also provides the franchisees with a number of additional benefits, some of which are very unusual in the current market.
“We handle all of the marketing for franchisees” explains Laura “ which means that we will target specific companies in the franchisee’s territories, and follow these up to provide franchisees with high quality qualified leads for them to go in and convert, which again, following our system, results in very high levels of success”.
The business is ideally suited to being run by ambitious individuals of any gender, and currently exactly 50% of the New City franchisees are female.
