Gareth started his career as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young where he qualified in 1991. Following that he spent time with Sun Life and Whitbread in various finance and commercial roles before moving into distribution in 1999.He progressed quickly to be Finance Director of the business which had turnover of £300m across Europe. After 7 years, Bizspace plc came calling and he joined the Board as Finance Director in 2005. In July 2006, Highcross acquired Bizspace and took the business private. Soon after Gareth took the helm as MD and since that time has managed the business through a period of significant change.
The business has faced many challenges, not least the doubling of the size to 110 sites within the first 18 months, which has meant that Bizspace is now the largest flexible workspace provider outside London operating over 7m sq ft of office and workshop space. Bizspace is often seen as the barometer of the small business sector having over 3000 businesses operating from its portfolio of offices and industrial workspace across the country.
The credit squeeze and subsequent recession have been more than challenging to Bizspace and its customers over the last 18 months, but optimism is replacing depression and Gareth believes that Bizspace and its customers will emerge from the gloom stronger and ready to take advantage of opportunity.
